In Search of Your Scottish Roots

I have been researching my Hunter surname for over twenty years and when I first started I would visit the Family History Center in Mesa, Arizona, and head right for the Genealogy Publications, and to this day I can hardly wait to add my Hunter Ancestral Tree Book.

There are several Genealogy Magazines I enjoy reading, and my favorite is Going In-Depth. I just can’t seem to find enough about researching Scottish Roots and the following is a great educational resource:

Ancestral Trails

After a month long vacation this past August, we followed my Hunter ancestors from
Giles County, Pearisburg, Virginia, to the Giles County courthouse where a Revolutionary War Memorial lists a Robert Hunter who is my ancestor. The Giles
County Historical Society was closed, but is on my list for future trips.

Clan Hunter Gatherings

After thirty years of researching my Hunter genealogy, and becoming a historian of our family history, I decided to register the Hunter surname with the Guild of One-Name Studies.

My paternal line goes to the ancestors of the Lairds of Hunterston Castle in West Kilbride, Ayrshire, Scotland.

In 2014 I attended my very first Clan Hunter Gathering in Scotland, and this coming
2017 I will be attending another one.

Our Clan Chief, Pauline Hunter of Hunterston, 30th Laird of Hunterston, has a Clan
Hunter International Gathering every three years.
