My 3x great uncle was a Surgeon who graduated in medicine from the U of Glasgow in 1865. He joined the colonial service and went to British Honduras where after a few years, he became the Chief Medical Officer. He retired to England but came out of retirement during WW1 to oversee the Belgian Hospitals that were treating war survivors. For this he was made an Officer of the British Empire. This was Alexander Hunter, LRCS, OBE, born in Newton on Ayr, in 1839.
